Don't Stop Learning to Code (Yet), Hear Me Out

Don't Stop Learning to Code (Yet) , Hear Me Out: Replit's CEO, Amjad Masad, said we should stop learning to code now because AI's getting so good. His take is kind of like "learn to prompt" is the new "learn to code," and that focusing on traditional coding might be a waste of time soon.
I totally get part of it. AI tools are amazing, no doubt. You pretty much have to get good at using them now. Agree 100% there.
But telling people not to bother learning coding fundamentals at all? Hmm, I don't know Rick (for the Rick and Morty fans).
Why? Because it's not really just about typing code, right? Learning that stuff teaches your brain some pretty useful tricks:
Figuring out how to actually tackle a big, messy problem.
Breaking it down into smaller chunks you can actually handle.
Seeing how all the different pieces fit together (like systems thinking!).
Thinking logically, step-by-step, sometimes even working backward from where you want to end up.
These skills are useful literally anywhere, even if you never write a line of professional code in your life! Even Masad mentioned that learning how to think, break down problems, and communicate clearly (with people and machines) is still super important. I just think learning coding logic is a really good way to build those mental muscles.
Maybe the best way is to combine both? Like, use AI to help you learn the coding logic, and use my favorite prompt of all times: "Teach me about....python". Dive into a passion project you actually care about. Then, when you hit those inevitable roadblocks (and you will!), lean on tools like Replit, Cursor, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude to help you figure things out and push through. It's not magic – you still have to put in the 'computer hours' and build your own intuition. That way, you're learning the thinking and mastering the tools simultaneously.
It feels less like an 'either/or' and more like a 'both/and' situation.
Am I off base here, or does coding logic still have value beyond just, well, coding?
